Drosophila Anesthesia Systems
Anesthesia is often a necessary step in fruit flies studies, e.g., in colony maintenance, identification of specimens, surgery, injection and sexing. The choice of anesthetic and the manner is very important, as over-anesthesia may lead to irreversible effects on stress tolerance, behavior and reproduction, and even death in Drosophila. There are currently main anaesthetic methods in Drosophila, e.g., chilling, etherization, and carbon dioxide (CO2).
CD BioSciences offers a wide range of Drosophila anesthesia apparatus and anesthetic kits for fruit flies and other small insects. Our anesthesia apparatus are suitable for various anesthetics such as carbon dioxide, which improves the diffusion of anesthetics and reduces anesthesia time. Our anesthetic kits are quality tested, and can effectively anesthetize Drosophila without affecting subsequent viability.
